How a run club works
A run club is a group of people who meet at a fixed time and place to run together, usually once a week. It is not a sports club: no races, no rankings, no compulsory membership (unless stated), and you don't need to be trained. The pace is easy, often in several groups by speed, and nobody is left behind. At the end, almost always, a drink together.
In Bergamo and its province there are 27 run clubs: from Monday at Trucca park (PTRUNBG) and in Osio Sotto (MRCBG), to Tuesday on the steps of Città Alta, to Wednesday with Cor Run, up to Saturday morning. Above you find them by day; on each club's page there are the meeting point, the next runs and the Instagram and WhatsApp contacts. This page updates itself every night.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be fit to run with a running club in Bergamo?
No. Almost every run club in Bergamo is open to anyone: the pace is easy and there are often several groups by pace. Just show up at the meeting point with running shoes. If you have never run, Fun Run in Calcinate is a real beginners' course, and Sabato alla Trucca also welcomes walkers.
How much does it cost to join a run club?
In most cases nothing: you show up and run. Some clubs ask for a yearly membership (for example Podisti Insonni, 35 euros) or a fee for the insurance. Each club's page says whether it is free.
Which day and what time do they run?
Every club has its fixed day: on Monday PTRUNBG at 18:15 at Trucca park and MRCBG at 18:45 in Osio Sotto, on Tuesday Le Scalette del Martedì at 19:00, on Wednesday Cor Run at 18:45 at the Trucca, on Saturday morning Sabato alla Trucca. The full list by day is at the top of this page.
How many kilometres do they run?
Usually between 5 and 10 kilometres, in about an hour. Track sessions (Thursday in Azzano, Wednesday in Mozzo) are more structured workouts; weekend runs can be longer. Each club writes it in its meeting point.
Do I need to register first?
Almost never. To know whether the group really goes out that week, the right place is the club's WhatsApp group or Instagram page, which you find on its page here on anyplans. If you sign up on anyplans you can say you're going and see who else is coming.
I'm visiting Bergamo: can I join a run for one evening?
Yes, that is exactly how these clubs work: nobody expects you to come back every week. Pick the day, show up at the meeting point a few minutes early, say hello. The run usually ends with a drink together.
